The instantaneous availability of loads of information, the global linkage of communication and the ever-present receptivity for outpoured mental contexts has made the allure of the Internet irrestible. The impact has seeped into the domain of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis as well. Emergency contact, quick interactions and even on-going treatment via phone, email and Skype have become prevalent. All this poses not only new technical challenges but also fresh ethical dilemmas. This presentation will focus upon the latter aspect of our electronic world of affairs.
Mental health professionals who complete this workshop will have an understanding of the various ways the internet is used in their practice and will gain an understanding of the legal and ethical concerns underlying use of internet. They also will have an understanding of the professional liability issues related to use of internet with a patient population.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify at least three ways the the internet is used in their practice
- Partipants will be able to describe at least three ethical concerns in using the internet
- Participants will be able to describe three professional liability issues in using the internet in practice
CE Hours: 3.0 CE Ethics Credits*
Important note: In order to receive the CE credits offered for this program, all attendees must be present in the workshop no later than 1:15 pm and must not leave prior to 4:15 pm.
